Mouseling Stud is the name of the Mousery owned by myself Rebecca T Harris. I am a member of The National Mouse Club Of Great Britain (with whom the stud affix "Mouseling Stud" is registered). I show and breed my mice - specialising in Blue in normal coat and Satin and Normal coated Cream fancy mice (known as "Bone" in some counties). Additionally my side project is trying to develop bandeds to a show worthy level. This is where most of the mice available for pet adoption originate. I usually have around 100 mice -- this is much fewer than many show studs, but it is essential to only have as many mice as I can provide individual attention to. My Breeding Goals & Ethics Health and Temperament are of paramount importance. Breeding for the highest possible standards in colour & type laid down by the NMC. I have a thoroughly structured breeding plan with goals always in sight to ensure the litters achieve their full potential, and exceed their parents in achievement. I am not embarrassed to seek guidance from more knowledgeable recognized show breeders before every step is taken. Selecting only robust mice for reproduction, mice in prefect health, with known backgrounds in relation to their pedigree linage and health. Only breeding from naturally tame mice with admirable temperaments, agreeable personalities with other mice as well as with human beings. The highest possible principles of care are given to the bucks, mothers and their pups to ensure their mental welfare and optimum health continuity, including (but not limited to), maintaining a rational amount of babies at any one time, the most favourable nourishment, appropriate hygienic comfy breeding boxes, safe ground litter & nesting martial, stimulus in the form of toys, and human contact and handling on a daily basis. Keeping comprehensive records with regards to the health, endurance, breeding and showing of all mice owned or breed. I try to follow up all mice I have sold right the way through their lives when ever probable, contacting owners about any health related issues and how the mice are doing in general. I also encourage owners to keep in touch and send photos when possible! Mice are placed in vetted homes with responsible adults. I ensure that the new owners have ample knowledge to be able to care for the mice to the best of their ability. I provide my support as well as care sheets to all new owners. If they have children they must be kind well mannered children who must be taught how to handle small creatures properly. Mice are sold to new owners under contract, specifying standards of care expected, whether the mice are suitable for show breeding or not (most mice sold as pets are not!), and that the mouse or mice must be returned to me if they can no longer be kept, to ensure the continued happiness of the mice. None of my mice should ever end up in rescue! I will take back any mice that the new owners are no longer able to keep, due to change in their personal circumstances, and either seek to rehome them in a vetted, caring home or to care for them myself for the rest of their lives. I continue to be accessible to all owners who have adopted mice from me throughout the life span of their mice, for any guidance they may need regarding the care, wellbeing or health of their mice. I will not cull retired adults at any cost (expect in the cases of uncireable health issue on humane grounds), this practice is very disagreeable to my ethics. Retired mice either stay with me or are rehomed to loving pet only homes for the fussing they justly merit.
